It must be in the early eighties I got to know Ron as a customer; he used to damage many of his cars, mainly Joan’s so I got to see him regularly. A mutual trust and friendship developed between us over the many years. Gradually we got to meet and know most of his family. Ron always took an interest in how everything was going for me with my wife Rita then in tow trying to help me in my crash repair business always working hard. Ron cordially invited us to join him and Joan at one of his Police special functions at the Bushey Police Sports club where we were invited to join to sit at his table with the top brass. I will always remember how pleased he was for us to join him and how he proudly introduced us to all his colleagues. We were always welcome at the home, Joan too eager to supply cups of tea and biscuits. There was always a lot to talk about and we always felt comfortable in their company. For many years I watched Ron looking after Joan with her illness only then to see him unfortunately develop the same in more recent years progressively more aggressively. Sadly all good things come to an end. My wife Rita passed away in 2000, Joan 2011? and now sadly Ron as well. I hope they are all together somewhere up there over a cup of tea watching over and tattling over what we should all be doing no doubt. Naturally it was sad to see Ron go but I'm pleased to hear that he passed away peacefully.
